Xecutioners Edge LG Money Makers 29-22, Move Up to 3rd Place The Xecutioners are seeing a little light at the end of the tunnel after holding off the late surging Money Makers. Doug Pipitone's Xecutioners overcame two early interceptions and a last minute Money Maker score and two-point conversion to move safely above the 4th place cut line for the Division 1 playoff. Xecutioners front man, James "You're Beautiful" Blunk completed 15 of 24 passes for 305 yards and 4 touchdowns while receiver Michael Medina returned from his one-game suspension to lead the Xecutioners in receiving, catching 4 passes for 124 yards and 3 TDs. WR Robert Bloodsaw was Blunk's other offensive weapon with 4 receptions for 97 yards and one touchdown. The Money Makers leading receiver, Richy Hall moved to QB for this game and completed 18 of 30 passes for 178 yards and 2 TDs. He often found wide receiver Esteban Acosta, who totaled 7 receptions for 73 yards and 2 touchdowns. Both Hall and Acosta pulled down defensive INTs to keep the game close in the first half. The Money Makers led 14-7 at the break, but couldn't get much going to start the second half. The Xecutioners scored on two Blunk-to-Medina bombs and took a 21-14 lead late in the game, but the Money Makers answered, driving the length of the field to score on a 5-yard pass from Hall to Joseph Abeyta to pull to within a point of the Xecutioners. Luck was with the Money Makers on the two-point conversion as team captain John Bergstrom made a spectacular catch on a deflected pass in the end zone. The Money Makers' luck ran out on defense, however, as Blunk completed a 45-yard strike to Bloodsaw and then punched in the go-ahead score to Medina with 27 seconds remaining on the clock. The Money Makers tried to advance the ball on a few deep strikes, but the ball fell harmlessly to the Clairemont turf. The last play was a hook-and-ladder from Hall to Acosta to Hall, but the Xecutioners swarmed to the ball carrier and pulled Hall's flag as time expired.
