Purple Nugs Sink Sharks 40-13 In the long expected D1 championship game matchup, the Purple Nugs played the game strong on both sides of the ball, converting on crucial 4th down plays and containing Sharks quarterback Peter Malloy to 12 of 27 passing for 161 total yards. Nugs QB Jason Runkle was 17 of 33 passing for 228 yards and 5 touchdowns, while veteran wideout Mike Stange once again led the way with six receptions for 110 yards and 2 TDs. Travis Lerma added another 2 Purple Nugs scores on four catches for 60 yards. Sharks WR Danny Malloy led his team with 7 receptions for 107 yards, but it wasn't enough on this day as the Nugs proved too tough and captured the title. The play of the game may have come midway through the first half with the Nugs clinging to a one-score advantage. The Purple Nugs' defensive All-Star Jason Bash jumped a short Shark route, snapped up the interception and scampered in for an easy touchdown to give his team some breathing room. While never really threatened, the Nugs had to convert on three fourth down plays - one resulting in a touchdown - to keep the Sharks at bay and complete their impressive undefeated championship run. Those Guys Take Down Flaggots in Div. 2 Championship 23-12 Those Guys had an uphill battle to face after quarterback Dan Beer injured his hand on the first play of the game. Ilan Podlipsky and Iosef Oberwager were called into emergency quarterback duty and shared the snaps. A serviceable pair, Podlipsky and Oberwager guided their team to victory and the D2 trophy. Podlipsky was able to air it out to Oberwager for 5 completions for 76 yards and 2 touchdowns. Oberwager also collected two Flaggot interceptions and returned one on a PAT for two points to secure the championship. Flaggots WR "Yeah" Bui Kimtan scored both Flaggot TDs on 5 catches for 80 yards. Purple Nugs Toke Down Xecutioners 38-12 It was the Runkle/Stange show once again for the Nugs as they dismantled the Xecutioners in the second D1 semifinal. Jason Runkle was 16 of 21 for 231 yards and 5 touchdowns - 3 to WR Mike Stange, who finished the game with 10 catches and 147 yards. Stange also pulled down 3 two-point conversions. Defenseman Patrick Lambert applied the pressure with three sacks of Xecutioners QB James "You're Beautiful" Blunk, who was 16 of 31 for 274 yards and 2 touchdowns. Wideout Michael Medina collected most of his team's yardage on 5 catches for 136 yards. Sharks Chomp M.O.B. 53-24 The Sharks looked sharp and determined to advance to the championship game with the impressive performances of the Malloy brothers, team captain Ian Gannon and Paul Hastings. QB Peter Malloy was 21 of 29 for 352 yards and 7 touchdowns in the game and brother Danny Malloy lead the team in receiving with 8 catches for 151 yards along with 2 touchdowns. The younger Malloy also scored a touchdown on an interception return. Gannon added another 2 TDs with his 5 receptions for 75 yards, while Hastings had 3 catches for 53 yards and 3 touchdowns. M.O.B. QB DeAndre Douglas was 17 of 32 passing for 241 yards and 4 TDs. WR and team captain Christian Prosser had 4 receptions for 87 yards and one touchdown on the day while WR Neill Little had 4 catches for 53 yards and 2 touchdowns. Flaggots Doggy-Style SD Wolf Pack 32-6 The Flaggots had all the right pieces in place and were all up in the Wold Pack's offense picking off the Ochoa duo four times. Flaggots QB Karl Bascos was 11 for 20 for 157 yards and 4 touchdowns despite the absence of their All-Star Nikko Gaddi. Playmaker Bui Kimtan stepped up in Gaddi's absence, hauling in six catches for 74 yards, one touchdown. Team captain Clarence Tagle had 3 receptions for 72 yards and 2 touchdowns as the Flaggots moved on to the D2 final. LG Money Makers Crap Out, Those Guys Advance to the D2 Championship Game Those Guys showed confidence and took advantage in their ability to take down the Marquiseless Money Makers in their quest to advance to the Div. 2 Championship game. Those Guys QB Dan Beer went 13 of 21 passing for 190 yards, four touchdowns and three interceptions. Wearing the #9 jersey, WR Ilan Podlipsky had six receptions for 97 yards and two touchdowns along with two sacks on defense. WR Iosef "field fertilizer" Oberwager, surprisingly kept his composure and food down without one incident of heaving or yacking, had four receptions for 70 yards and two TDs. For the Money Makers, it was the Richy Hall show as he collected nine receptions for 158 yards and one touchdown along with an INT on defense. SD Wolf Pack Paws Superbad 29-28, Advance to D2 Semifinals Team Superbad entered the game determined to continue their two-game win streak but fell short in their rematch game against the Wolf Pack in a nail-biter. Last week Superbad super beat the Wolf Pack 49-8 but that Pack was ready to fight back. QB Guillermo Ochoa Sr. was 16 of 21 passing for 162 yards and 3 touchdowns. Receivers William Huyser, Michael Bishop and Larry Moore each caught a touchdown pass and Moore studded out on defense with an INT returned for a score. Superbad's WR Larry Miller scored half of his team's points with on four receptions for 68 yards and two TDs, while defenseman Andrew "House of" Kang brought the noise on defense with an interception return for touchdown.
